35 Years of Automated Solutions

In 1984, SP Technology was formed with the vision of becoming a leader in bespoke automated solutions. Working with our clients to fully understand their production process and their automation pain points, we then design and build a solution unique to their product and process – essentially, their competitive advantage. 35 years on this has resulted in SP Technology becoming one of the top automation companies in the UK, having won numerous awards for providing a diverse range of industries with outstanding engineered manufacturing solutions.
With systems supplied worldwide within many industries, the company’s ability to adapt to new technologies and offer outstanding service and after-sales support is the reason we have become so successful. Enabling our clients to remain on top of their competition within the industry they operate with the ability to meet the demand of modern day production. One of the first projects the company started with was the automation of medical devices; this is still a key area within our portfolio. However, our expertise is not limited to any particular industry.
The company underwent a Management Buyout (MBO) in 2017 by two directors, Roy Henderson and Lee Nixon. Roy has been with the company for 33 years, a director for 12 years and the company’s first apprentice. Alongside Roy is Lee Nixon, who has been with the company for 17 years as a senior design/project engineer and a director for 5 years.
Roy Henderson, co-director, commented:
“April the 2nd marks our 35th year of operating and having been with the company for such a long time, I have at first hand seen the change in technology and what clients expect in an automation company. In this industry, you have to have passion and an inventive thought process, which must be shared across the whole company. Without a driven and forward-thinking team, things can become stagnant. Our sector can’t stand still and needs to adapt to what industry offers and to our client’s needs. Over the years, my passion has grown stronger each year due to the fact we literally cannot and do not stand still”.
This year announced a high level of investment, in not only machine tools and equipment but also its offices and factory space.
Lee Nixon, co-director, commented:
“Our investment is not just to improve the cosmetic feel of our facilities; it’s to ensure our team has the correct working environment and tools to help them continue to work as a dynamic and innovative team. The investment will also include new office media tools to promote improved ways of communication, both internally and with clients. We want our team to not only be proud of who they work for but be happy in the environment they work.”
In addition to the physical changes and look within the company, SP Technology has recently expanded its team with an additional applications engineer and is looking at recruiting possibly two apprentices, an additional software engineer along with a further sales engineer later this year.
