MECHANICAL PROJECT/DESIGN ENGINEER
Salary – DOE
We are looking to expand our Mechanical Design/Applications team.
The ideal candidate should have experience in the concept, design and detail of automation machines or similar type of machinery. Occasionally, the role may also involve generating concept designs whilst supporting at a sales/applications level, therefore a flare for creative and innovative design is essential.
Although the individual will be working within the mechanical design team the successful candidate would ideally; although not essential, be required to possess a working knowledge of both PLC control and software aspects of logic-controlled systems to enable them to fully function as part of the multi-discipline team. As the systems are predominantly mechanically orientated the candidate would be responsible for the Project Management aspect of the job whilst being supported by the Management Team.
A great multi-disciplined team environment is how we like to view our modern design office, which has immediate access to our manufacturing and build facilities thus enabling the design engineer to work closely with the manufacturing and build teams and follow their project from concept to solution.
Unfortunately, due to the level of experience required the position is not suitable for recently qualified graduates.
Required Skill Set
- Proficient with Autodesk Inventor (latest version 2023).
- Capable within SolidWorks 2023, although not essential.
- Basic Project Management tools.
- Risk Assessment procedures for automated machinery.
- Familiarity with the Machinery Directive and other machine design-related standards to enable designs to meet UKCA and/or CE Marking requirements.
- Familiarity with BS EN ISO 13849-1 standard for Machine Safety: Safety Related Parts of Control Systems.
- Technical writing abilities for generating Machine Manual Documentation through the complete Design process – includes Functional Design Specifications, Software and Hardware Specifications, O&M Manuals, Risk Assessments and Factory Acceptance Testing documentation.
- Ability to follow Project Plans and operate to milestone dates.
- Fully competent in the use of Microsoft 365 (Office suite including Word, Excel, and Access).
Personal Attributes
- Excellent communication skills are required.
- Willing to learn.
- Problem solving.
- A clean Driving Licence would be advantageous.
- Willingness to travel for Client/Supplier or Application meetings.
