PILZ Training for Safer Automation
Topics:

SP Automation & Robotics has been designing and manufacturing automated manufacturing solutions for over thirty years. These solutions provide the end user with an enhanced product whilst ensuring the operators are being upskilled and ensured of safety by providing training on installation. After all, safety in the workplace is paramount, and more so now with the introduction of automation and robotics, which once raised concerns over the risk of injury, but long gone are the days when robots and man working together were shunned. The acceptance that jobs are not going to be lost but generated and employees are upskilled has been realised. The use of robots and automation in the workplace has doubled in the last five years and will continue to do so as risk is eliminated. Collaboration between robots and operators has seen the efficiency in factories treble, with a reduction in error and an increase in throughput.
Yet, to allow this to continue, safety has to be ensured, and who better to ensure this has been adhered to than Pilz? The Pilz training course was a City & Guilds Machine Safety course where the outcome resulted in us gaining a recognised qualification with respect to Machine Safety. Pilz is an industry standard when it comes to Machine Safety equipment, so who better to ensure we are properly trained to implement Machine Safety than Pilz? From packaging in the food and drinks industry to filling in the pharmaceutical industry to assembly in the medical device industry, there is not much that SP Technology has not been involved with. Working closely with each individual client to fully understand their process and ensure that our solutions identify risks and opportunities at each stage of robotic process automation implementation.
As the UK is part of the EU, then SP Automation & Robotics must supply machinery which is CE compliant and CE marked accordingly. By CE marking our systems, we demonstrate that all our systems have been designed and built to ensure operator/user safety is paramount throughout the lifetime of our automated systems. As the machinery directive and its harmonised standards are updated or indeed superseded on a regular basis, we ensure our team of design engineers are kept up to date by carrying out the necessary training to ensure our self-certified CE marking procedures comply with all the latest directives, regulations and standards. The course covered a number of aspects from the machinery directive, PUWER, risk assessment procedures, machinery guarding and also safety-related parts of the control system. The use of sensors and guards halt the machine when users/operators infringe on a specific radius, which could potentially inflict danger or injury.
SP Automation & Robotics is proud to hold a Scottish Engineering award for machine safety and will continue to work smarter to ensure we are always adhering to our core values, which include forward-thinking, quality, and relationship building. We have been awarded Manufacturer of the Year in Scotland and are delighted to be a finalist for the same award for the United Kingdom. Our solutions are spread across the globe, and we are currently building our third machine for an American manufacturer.
