Automation and Robotics Showcase – Inverness

December 2018

SP Automation & Robotics is partnering with EQ Accountants to provide attendees with a showcase of what can be incorporated into your new automated system at the Robotics & Automation exhibition in Inverness on 6th & 7th February 2019 and give advice on how to finance automated systems.

The demo machine consists of traditional automation combined with some elements of Industry 4.0, including an integrated collaborative robot (cobot), a Beckhoff eXtended Transport System (XTS) and machine monitoring. Displaying how systems can monitor the change in machine component power usage, vibration, and overall efficiency to ensure production targets are being met.

Having the ability to see and monitor particular parts of machines allows improvements to be made by controlling preventative maintenance procedures. This is more than just stopping production for a general health check every couple of months. It now has the ability to see your machine, its components and how they are performing in real-time.

“Having the ability to see and monitor particular parts of your machines can allow you to improve your production by allowing you to control preventative maintenance procedures.”

Monitoring servo drives and index systems, etc., to identify if a particular one is causing an issue, allowing you to truly predict the mean time between failures (MTBF).

Real-Time Machine Monitoring

For example, one particular customer in high-volume manufacturing was able to reduce their PM by around 25% by monitoring their machines in this way. Looking at live data and changes in the system allowed them to schedule maintenance when it was required.

Collaborative Robots

Universal Robots cobot

As part of our demo machine, SP Technology has also integrated a collaborative robot to show these relative newcomers to the market are not just for working next to humans. They can also be fully integrated into machines.

This will demonstrate how cobots (Collaborative Robots) can function normally when guarded but also how they can still safely interact with humans when outside of any guarding.

Although the machine on show is purely a demo, it will provide insight into how SP Automation & Robotics builds machines and, just as important, how this will operate on your shop floor. From fully self-diagnosing machine faults to simple work instructions on the HMI, we hope to open everyone’s eyes to Industry 4.0.

Partnering with EQ Accountants – How to Finance Automated Systems

Partnering with our accountants, EQ, we will be delivering a presentation on the productivity gains and help available to finance any capital expenditure and how to finance automated systems. Having been dedicated to the automation and robotics industry for over 30 years with SP Technology, Roy Henderson has been involved in helping hundreds of companies embrace automation tailored precisely to their process. He has witnessed many advances in areas such as robotics/cobots, connectivity, IoT and the ever-popular phrase ‘Industry 4.0’, but how do these fit into the real world? Using some customer case studies, Roy will talk through the journey of automating production with tips on engaging the automation process. Additionally, he will briefly review some financial aspects to consider on the financial side of capital equipment, including ROI, ensuring productivity and efficiency gains, and financing automated systems.
